What this service is

Pre-Purchase Forensics is a registered business name of Maurice D Chapman (ABN 57 300 281 380). [Update if the business structure changes, e.g. to a company.] It produces research reports about online offers, used vehicles and sellers' terms and conditions, using artificial intelligence to search and summarise publicly available information at the time you ask, together with anything you provide. Reports describe what sources say, explain what a seller's own terms mean, and point out common sales tactics and warning signs. Our stance is simple: buyer beware, with the evidence. Reports are general information only.

Vehicle reports are research from public records and what you provide. They are not a physical or mechanical inspection; always have a vehicle inspected independently before you buy. Terms and conditions reviews explain the seller's wording in plain English and point out terms worth questioning; they are not legal advice about your contract.

Prices and refunds

A preliminary check costs A$2 and a full report costs A$35 [including GST, if registered]. Preliminary checks can also be bought in advance as credit packs: 3 for A$5 or 6 for A$10. Credits are held on a private credit code, last 12 months, and can be used by anyone who has the code, so keep it safe. If a check paid with a credit cannot be completed, the credit is returned to your code. If you upgrade a preliminary check to a full report, A$2 is credited. A preliminary check recommends a full report only when its findings justify one.

If a report cannot be completed, your payment is refunded automatically. If you believe a report you paid for was not of acceptable quality, contact us at [email] within 30 days and we will make it right. Nothing here limits your rights under the Australian Consumer Law.

Payments are processed by Stripe. We never see or store your card details.

What it is not

Reports are not legal, financial, investment or tax advice, and they are not findings of fact about any person or business. A warning sign in a report means a source or the sales material shows something worth checking. It does not mean anyone has acted unlawfully. Information can be incomplete, out of date or wrong, and AI can make mistakes. Check the listed sources yourself and get professional advice before making significant decisions.

Your responsibilities

Use the service lawfully and only for research about offers. Do not paste information about other people that you have no right to share, and do not use reports to harass or defame anyone.

Fair use

Free features, such as refund letters, are limited each day to keep the service available for everyone.

Businesses named in reports

If you believe a report about your business contains an error, contact us at [email] with the details and supporting evidence and we will review it.

Privacy

We do not create accounts. Your report, the details you entered and any file you attached are stored for 30 days so that your private report link keeps working, and are then deleted automatically. Anyone who has the link can open the report, so share it only with people you trust. Your form entries are also kept in your own browser for convenience.

To produce a report, what you enter is sent to our AI provider, Anthropic, which processes it under its commercial terms. Stripe processes payments and receives your email address and card details under its own privacy policy. To enforce daily limits on free features, we keep a scrambled code derived from your internet address for up to 48 hours; we do not keep the address itself. Our host, Cloudflare, may keep standard security logs.

Reports research businesses, products and vehicles. We do not research private individuals, such as private car sellers.

Questions or requests: [email].
